"Gemma Correll" Exhibition at The Soup Gallery.

So last night was the opening party for the new Gemma Correll exhibition at Truro's The Soup Gallery. It was another awesome party with a chintsy "tea party" theme right down to the cake and lemonade, doillies and bunting.

Gemma is an acclaimed artist who has previously worked for the rad Lazy Oaf clothing label amongst many other projects and she has a really cool "sketchy" style full of quirky comments and characters. The show is well-worth a visit so get on down to The Soup Gallery or go here: http://www.thesoupgallery.co.uk

Master lensman, surf film curator and our friend Christian Bailey dropped by the store last week to talk through a little project we've got brewing up. Subscribers to the attla newsletter will have an inclination of what this project is going to be, but for all you non-subscibers I'm afraid you'll have to wait just a little while longer to find out.

Go and read Christian's rad website: www.thesurfscreen.com

Some fresh eye-candy instore.

We decided it was high time for some fresh eye-candy instore at attla. Next to the footwear wall we now have a piece from Glasgow-based artist Klingatron entitled "The Photographer".
Rare Volcom 'zine upstairs in the changing room.

And finally some skate-nostalgia with a signed Tony Alva tee freshening up the downstairs changing room (thanks to Chris at Vans for that one).

Another attla exclusive in cornwall...

Always the first in Cornwall to bring you the freshest new brands, this time we are proud to announce that attla will be your only source for the amazing apparel brand: Altamont.

With skate-ledgend Andrew Reynold's at the helm and a team that also includes Bryan Herman, Garret Hill, Sammy Baca and Theotis Beasley amongst other's this brand has been whipping up a storm in the skate-industry as well as in the fashion set, for it's unique style and premium quality.

With a distinctive (dare we say "hesh" style) and deep roots in the sub-cultures of alternative music, film and art this brand has elevated the standard of skateboard apparel brands. This brand is also super-hard to find with only the choicest boutiques or core stores being allowed to retail its goods!

Keep an eye out for Altamont's amazing denim programme with signature cuts, washes and the understated Altamont "A" tags on the arse! Other highlights are always the interesting flannels and cut and sew pieces as well as some iconic rock styling tees.

This brand is going to become a firm favourite for you so be sure to head down to attla in late summer to get you hands on the goods!

P.S. We just came off the blower with the bro's over at Altamont and we hope to be receiving the first collection from them sometime in August!

"Banksy x Bristol Museum" a photo diary

After a brief sojourn from the world of art we thought we'd bring you this photo diary of our recent trip up to the new Banksy show at The Bristol Museum. The show had been running for a while before we headed up yet there were still insanely long queues running down Park Street!

The famous Glasto-bogs even made an appearance in the Museum lobby. As did a worse-for-wear ice cream van come lobby reception desk.

The whole duration of the "Banksy" show experience feels a bit like Disneyland these days right down to the family photo's being snapped everywhere. There's no doubting the experience is a fun one but it does feel like it's cheapening "street art" in some sense (and there's the first mention of the dreaded "s" word ed).

The usual Banksy traits were present: Riot guards, rats, social commentary slogans and the more recent trad/oil painting style pieces with slight contemporary/social references.

Later we took a look upstairs in the rest of the beautiful building that is The Bristol Museum where we found loads of "altered" paitings such as these.

Damien Hurst and Banksy collaborative effort.

Whenever I've told anyone that we went up to check out this show they've always asked me for some conclusive take on what I thought of the show and I've found myself struggling to tie together my feelings on it (which is a rarity). On one hand there's no doubt that the show will do a lot of good for The Bristol Museum and Bristol itself as it's had heaps of attention. It was also really great to see all walks of life making it down to the show. However the experience is certainly a strange one if you are used to checking out art shows or have a following for the world of street art or contemporary art. It is not a fair representation of the current UK street/urban art scene but it's definately worth going along to check it our for yourself.
